Despite being around since 1815, this port producer doesn’t really exist. That’s reason enough to pick up a bottle or two.
Let me explain: Feuerheerd’s was founded in 1815 by Dietrich Matthias Feuerheerd who established his wine shipping business in Oporto. In 1926 the company was sold, and over the years has traded ownership though a few families.
It’s fame grew as a boutique producer of port wines. However, by the mid-20th century its fortunes were in decline and it merged with another company. In 2007 it was purchased again and pretty much forgotten. All that is left now is the brand name and some remaining inventory. This 10 year port may be one of the last bottles we will ever see of this ancient winery.
